Nucor Steel, one of the world’s leaders in sustainable steel production, has chosen Mason County, WV as the location for their new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill! Nucor produces steel by recycling scrap metal in electric arc furnaces, making the company North America’s largest recycler of any material. The record investment of $2.7 Billion will be the largest investment in the history of West Virginia and is expected to bring 800 high-quality jobs to the mountain state. Construction of this state-of-the art facility, which is set to begin in 2022, will create up to 1,000 jobs alone!

More than 3,200 miles of highway and 1,545 bridges are in poor condition across West Virginia, and now it’s time to get to work! The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) has provided billions to the state of West Virginia to repair and expand our network of roads and highways and is the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the state’s interstate highway system.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) provides $146 million a year, for 15 years for AML reclamation and water projects! This historic amount of funding will help ensure the health and safety of West Virginia’s coal communities while driving economic growth and creating good paying jobs for the people. Reclaiming our abandoned mine lands will continue to have positive impacts, leading to improvements in our water quality, landscapes, and further economic development. Figure out how you can get involved in keeping West Virginia wild and wonderful for years to come!

Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, West Virginia would expect to receive $46 million over five years to support the expansion of an EV charging network in the state! Electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular with the world’s leading car manufacturers, making EV charging stations essential for attracting new businesses and tourists in the future.

West Virginia will receive nearly $487 million to replace undependable water and sewer systems in rural communities across the state. West Virginia is set to receive over $83 million for fiscal year 2022 alone, the largest water infrastructure investment ever for the state. Funding from the bipartisan bill will support new clean drinking water technologies, upgrading and repairing machinery, and updating wastewater infrastructure systems in many rural areas.

$40 million for our airports that provide access to and from the Mountain State. The funding makes needed investments that will help provide additional services that will increase travel to West Virginia, create job opportunities, and drive economic development in regions across our state. Funds will be distributed to 22 airports throughout West Virginia.

In the modern world, access to affordable internet is essential in creating a thriving economy. The IIJA includes $600 million for West Virginia to expand and improve its internet access. The bill is the first comprehensive investment in broadband deployment for the state, where hundreds of thousands of West Virginians have no broadband access. The historic investment will connect and give all West Virginians access to telehealth, online education, remote job opportunities, and endless other benefits!

West Virginians have a deep understanding of the devastation caused by disasters – both natural and man-made. The state will receive $11 million to protect against wildfires, $14 million will be allocated to protect against cyberattacks.
